Great opportunity for an experienced Commercial Litigation Paralegal to join a sophisticated boutique law firm in their Chicago office on a direct hire hybrid basis to add to the firm’s growing practice.  The paralegal will be a key member of each assigned case team and expected to perform all aspects of non-attorney work, as needed, at a high level.  This includes every step of the discovery process, from collecting ESI from clients worldwide to managing and searching large data sets in Relativity using cutting-edge tools and techniques.  It also includes assisting attorneys prepare for hearings and trial and managing exhibits before, during, and after presentation.  Duties include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Assist attorneys to generate overall discovery plan
  • Participate in and memorialize custodian interviews
  • Collect EDD and memorialize collection efforts
  • Draft data collection and review protocols, including use of Relativity Analytics
  • Supervise document review (both in-firm and contract)
  • Coordinate document production with in-firm litigation support
  • Coordinate with/supervise third-party vendors
  • Draft and maintain logs
  • Assist with other aspects of discovery, as necessary, including:
    • Document review/privilege review
    • Prepare and assist with service and tracking of subpoenas
    • Deposition preparation

Trial/Administrative Hearing/Mediation/Arbitration:

  • Coordinate logistics, including off-site workspace, courtroom, hotel, etc.
  • Preparation and maintenance of exhibit list
  • Drafting or managing demonstratives, working with third-party vendors as necessary
  • Provide materials to and work with experts
  • Interface with witnesses, other counsel, court
  • Preparation and coordination of all trial materials
  • Set up trial workspace and courtroom
  • Assist with witness preparation
  • “Hot seating” (running) trial technology

Pleadings/Appellate Filings:

  • Review rules and prepare any necessary checklists to manage complex filings
  • Prepare record on appeal
  • Cite checking and cite finding (fact)
  • General proofing


  • 8+ years of complex commercial litigation experience, including previous trial experience
  • Extensive knowledge of EDRM and project management capabilities
  • Advanced skills with Relativity, including complex searching and ability to work with Analytics to streamline document review and case management
  • Intermediate experience with Excel and PowerPoint a plus
  • Enthusiastic self-starter who is able to work with minimal supervision in a high intensity environment
  • High attention to detail
  • Positive attitude
  • Former supervisory experience a plus
  • Dependable with consistent and predictable attendance
