Patent Agent – Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical

Great opportunity for an experienced Patent Agent to join a leading and respected national law firm in their Philadelphia, PA office on a direct hire basis. The patent agent must have at least 3 years of experience preparing and prosecuting patents in a variety of life science, biotech, and pharmaceutical matters. The patent agent will work on all aspects of patent practice with particular focus on freedom to operate and due diligence search and analysis projects and preparation and prosecution of patent applications. Candidates must be registered patent agents and have an advanced degree in the biological sciences and research experience in biological sciences. They should be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive materials and maintain strict confidentiality due to the nature of the position. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide technical expertise in life sciences or pharmaceutical patent practice
- Conduct freedom to operate and/or IP due diligence search and analysis in support of the licensing and acquisitions and/or research and development of small- and large-molecule products
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications, and help develop strong patent portfolios for drug candidates
- Liaise with clients and foreign associates regarding the domestic and foreign patent application processes and strategies
- Communicate with the USPTO as necessary
- Identify and review ongoing issues that might affect the patent process
- Help develop patent portfolios, manage the patent docket, and communicate dates and ensure deadlines are met
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, microbiology, or genetics, and research experience in biological sciences
- Prior experience with patents in pharmaceutical and life sciences fields
- Current registration and in good standing with the USPTO required
- 3+ years of experience as a patent agent
- Excel in a team environment
- Demonstrate a keen interest in developing and implementing relationship-building skills both internally and externally
- Have prior experiences that prepare them to work with attorneys, staff and clients from cultures and backgrounds different from their own
- Be highly motivated and a self-starter
- Be flexible and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Have excellent credentials and references
