Trustpoint One is seeking a Senior Attorney with Immigration experience to work in the Harlingen, Texas office of a top client.

Senior Attorney Job Responsibilities:

-             Provide legal services to detained immigrants in immigration removal proceedings, in the South Texas border region.

-             Serves as mentor and leader to staff attorneys, legal support staff, legal interns, and volunteers, including by maintaining current materials and trainings on legal matters.

-             Develops and maintains legal competency relating to immigration detention work, specifically as applied to unaccompanied minors. Builds and maintains relations with local stakeholders.

-             Observes ethical practices relating to client confidentiality and all other applicable legal ethics standards. Maintains case files, documentation and data integrity using case management system.

Specific to the team that works with unaccompanied children:

-             Regularly appears in immigration court to represent children in removal proceedings and to act as Friend of Court for other detained youth as appropriate. May also appear in Texas state court as related to a child’s immigration case.

-             Serves as a facilitator between the shelter, shelter services team and legal department.

-             Reviews legal screenings and assigns follow-up services, including additional interviewing, referrals to other legal services providers and advocates, or in- house representation.

-             Performs other duties as required.

Specific to the team that works with detained adults:

-             Regularly appears in immigration court. Represents clients seeking immigration relief such as asylum, T visas, U visas, cancellation of removal and other relief as appropriate.

-             Provides group and individual legal orientations to detained immigrants in immigration

removal proceedings.

-             Provides legal services, including direct representation, to detained or locally released

immigrants.

-             Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

-             Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school and one or more years’ experience

representing clients preferably on immigration matters.

-             Licensed and in good standing to practice law in a U.S. state or territory (Texas bar admission is preferred.

-             Two years’ experience with at least one year in immigration matters.

-             Fluent in English and Spanish in written and spoken forms.

-             Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office products and Google tools.

-             Must be able to pick up on client visual and verbal cues.

-             Have reliable transportation to travel to off-site work locations.

-             Must be insurable and have an acceptable driving record.

-             Prior volunteer, community, or work experience regarding immigration or detention.  Non-profit experience, particularly involving immigration detention is preferred.

Specific to the team that works with unaccompanied children:

-             This position requires the ability to travel to and enter care provider facilities which provide housing and services to unaccompanied children. This position will require the provision of legal services to unaccompanied children in such care provider facilities. In accordance with the federal regulation, a background check will be required for this position.

-             Prior work experience with children, particularly from Central America and including Mayan language- speaking populations is preferred.

-             This position requires the ability to travel to and enter detention centers.

-             Prior work experience with clients, particularly from Central America and including Mayan language- speaking populations is preferred.
