Trustpoint is excited to partner with an Am Law 200 law firm in their search of a Trademark Legal Assistant to support the firm's busy intellectual property practice group on a direct hire basis, in their Chicago office. Successful candidates will have 2+ years' experience in trademarks and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.


  • Manage trademark prosecution dockets; monitor and follow-up on dates for US and foreign trademarks, providing follow-up with attorneys and clients
  • Assist with new matter opening and intake requests, performing conflict checks
  • Prepare and file trademark applications, extensions of time, statements of use, combined declaration and affidavits, and renewals with the USPTO
  • Prepare and process outgoing correspondence through mail or fax; arrange for specialized mail or messenger services as needed
  • Assist with routine billing inquiries, expenses and invoices review
  • Coordinate travel arrangements
  • Record assignments and name changes in the USPTO and international jurisdictions
  • Prepare correspondence, memos, and legal documents
  • Proofread, edit and finalize documents to ensure appropriate formatting, grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Manage data in integrated databases that contain client and matter information
  • Schedule meetings, appointments, due dates, client-related activities, and case dates on electronic calendars
  • Organize and maintain files, both electronic and physical


  • 2+ years' experience in trademarks at a law firm or inhouse legal team
  • High School diploma
  • Experience with intellectual property docketing systems (e.g. CPi, AltLegal) (preferred)
  • Excellent clerical written communication skills; knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Proven client service skills in person, over the phone and via email
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Notary (preferred)
  • All candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time
