Description
Great opportunity for an experienced Defense Litigation Paralegal to join a growing law firm in its Downtown Manhattan office on a direct hire basis. This is a hybrid position but is required to work in the office at least four days each week. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide paralegal support to attorneys through all phases of litigation
- Managing all case materials, including all electronic files and database applications
- Collecting medical records and films, creating a medical chronology and summary, uploading medical records to database, and making sure that the medical records are produced to the plaintiff’s attorney and any experts
- Performing fact research on parties, witnesses, and experts
- Maintaining and monitoring court deadlines for assigned cases and taking ownership of case calendars
- Preparing drafts of pleadings, notices, and motions
- Preparing deposition notices and organizing, maintaining and preparing deposition materials, exhibits and summaries
- Tracking and managing discovery, including document productions
- Coordinating and communicating with and retaining expert witnesses
- Preparing expert packages
- Participating in case strategy meetings and handling routine calls and correspondence to courts, outside attorneys, and clients
- Preparing deposition, mediation, and trial notebooks
- Preparing exhibits; and
- Assisting with trial preparation and trial.
Qualifications:
- 5 to 10 years of experience handling insurance defense or other types of civil defense litigation cases from beginning to end
- Defense Litigation Experience required
- Substantial experience collecting medical records and creating medical records summaries is absolutely essential
- Strong analytical and research abilities as well as effective communication skills
- Strong writing skills
- Excellent work ethic
- All candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time
